The NEST 1997 is a collection of 3 paintings/drawings. Each measures: 23″ H x 15″W.
This work is the bridge between BREATH 1997 and Pine Tree: An Appeal to Heaven 1998 paintings/drawings.
Note the transfiguration of the shared and fading elements.
Each panel measures: 64″ H x 37″ W x 2.5″ D.
The commission was site specific.
The quarter size model is shown above as well as the stages of exploration and execution.

RESURRECTION / EXODUS 1996 was a commissioned by Holtkoetter International,
a German chandelier manufacturer, for their USA headquarter offices.
The work was inspired by the Exodus story of FAITH
as one enters the wilderness:
following a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.
The background and foreground oscillates with the various elements:
radiance of the gold and the position of the sun and the position of the viewer.
The background color is a custom mix of deep blue violet /black
which was applied in multiple layers over the gold- back and forth,
which gives the work depth.
There are five panels- five being the number of love.
The panels were affixed to an overhang of a balcony in the front lobby.
The South light washed the paintings and each painting was a revelation
of gold- an aura of gold.
The viewer is not a spectator but is involved with the revelation and the shadow of the work.
A pas-de-deux.
An improvisational exponential disclosure of attending and opening/offerings.
Spectacular + intimate epiphanies.
Slowly and suddenly, the work shifted into light and then to material.
A suspension and a transformation of the ordinary into a sublime moment.
This major work was dedicated to my beloved doctor: the late Dr. Mark B. Coventry of the Mayo Clinic.
He looked at the x-rays of my bone and always saw my spirit.
We were in concert for decades.
Before he died he asked me to make two promises to him:

The RED SEA CROSSINGS: Blood Memoirs diptych
was made of layers and layers of buried color
-sheets and cloaks of radiant gold over seas of rich deep reds.
The work is both an ephemeral and alternating encounter-revealing and veiling, as the viewer and the light source shifts in relation to the work.
The viewing is an experience of time unfolding and resonating with the immediacy of a drawing and the ancient luminosity of Mideval and Pre-Renaissance Italian painting.
Cut lungs and gashed hearts. The fierce struggle/battle to BREATHE + LISTEN to one’s heart with honor/respect/love of one’s God given gift: LIFE.
To endure the dark night of the soul and harvest the liberating truth, the beauty, of the journey and cross over to the land of milk and honey as the harvest of LIGHTLOVEHOPE.
